World Earth Week 2024
Grant Thornton Ireland and Imvizar collaborated to create an impactful Earth Week experience, Planet vs Plastics, designed to raise awareness about the environmental consequences of single-use plastics. This interactive AR installation aimed to educate participants and inspire them to adopt more sustainable practices.
Challenge
In today's environmentally conscious world, organisations are increasingly seeking largely creative methods to educate stakeholders on sustainability issues. Grant Thornton Ireland, faced the challenge of devising an engaging and memorable way that not just raises awareness about the environmental impact of single-use plastics, but also changes the mindset and encourages people to be more mindful of their actions.
Solution
An innovative solution emerged through a collaborative effort between Grant Thornton Ireland and Imvizar. This solution was built upon the 2024 Earth Week theme - Planet vs Plastics. This interactive experience leveraged the power of AR technology to create a captivating and educational experience, visually demonstrating the environmental consequences of everyday choices.
End-to-End Assistance for Experience Building
Imvizar's role in this project extended beyond simply developing the AR aspects. We functioned as a comprehensive storytelling partner, collaborating closely with Grant Thornton to craft the entire user journey and narrative. This collaborative approach encompassed:
Concept Development & Scriptwriting: Imvizar's creative team crafted a compelling narrative that resonated with users. The focus was on effectively communicating the environmental impact of single-use plastics in a way that was both informative and engaging.
AR Development & Design: Our talented developers utilised cutting-edge technology to bring the experience to life. This ensured a seamless and interactive experience for users, seamlessly integrating the narrative with the AR technology.
The Experience
Situated prominently within the Grant Thornton Ireland lobby, the AR experience transported users into an interactive scene. Here, they encountered a seagull interacting with a discarded coffee cup. Through a combination of visuals and audio, the experience highlighted the long-term environmental consequences associated with single-use plastics. Users were empowered to explore how even small changes, such as reducing coffee cup use by just one cup per week, could significantly benefit the environment. The experience culminated in a dramatic visual – a vast sea of coffee cups inundating the lobby. This powerful imagery served to emphasise the substantial impact that seemingly small, sustainable choices can have.
This project's speciality lies in its use of AR technology to create a captivating and interactive educational experience. Unlike traditional methods, the AR experience placed users directly in a simulated scenario, making the abstract concept of environmental impact tangible and immediate.
Measurable Impact and Recognition
Increased Brand Awareness & Engagement:
Over 400 employees actively engaged with the AR experience during Earth Week, showcasing its ability to capture attention and spark interest. The initiative fostered a sense of community involvement and collective responsibility towards environmental care. Additionally, Grant Thornton Ireland showcased its commitment to sustainability, enhancing brand reputation and boosting employee engagement.
Empowering Change
The experience highlighted the issue of waste generation, carbon emissions associated with plastic production and disposal, and the stress placed on ecosystems, overall, inspiring users to consider the environmental impact of their daily habits, motivating them to adopt more sustainable practices in their personal lives.
Measurable Results
Imvizar and Grant Thornton Ireland tracked user engagement through QR code scans, app downloads, and the average time spent interacting with the experience. This data provided valuable insights into the project's effectiveness.
Award Recognition
A testament to its impact, the "Planet vs. Plastics" experience has garnered prestigious recognition by being nominated for the "Best Climate Change Solution" category in the Auggie Awards and has also been shortlisted as a finalist. This nomination highlights the project's widespread influence, extending beyond initial expectations.
