We have just launched a new digital story trail across Waterford City. With 15 different stops to enjoy, immersive yourself in audio tales and epic visuals brought to you by the city’s former residents ‘themselves’ via the online platform or through the Imvizar app.
Across Waterford City, we have designed the Waterford Digital Story Trail in collaboration with Waterford City and County Council. This experience offers visitors wonderful audio clips and a chance to bring historic characters alive with 6 immersive AR scenes and a narrator to enhance your journey. With 15 different stages full of cultural and historic stories, the Waterford Digital Story Trail offers visitors both audio and visuals of the city’s most famous inhabitants.
Spanning over a thousand years, the story of Waterford begins in the Viking age. Visitors can listen as Reginald—a Viking King and warlord from the 10th century—describes his quest to conquer Ireland, and watch as Thomas Francis Meagher—the Leader of the Young Irelanders in the 1848 Rebellion—raises the first Irish tri-colour flag. Discover the history of Waterford Crystal and see ancient glass blowers in action. Hear the story of Aoife and Strongbow who’s 12th century marriage united the Irish and the Normans.
This digital story trail is fun for all the family. Get everyone involved in stopping Waterford from being besieged with our immersive canon launching game. See how you’d look in the Viking age with our Viking hat and beard face filter and discover more about Waterford’s history and culture along your journey.
The trail can be accessed for free by either downloading the Imvizar app on a smartphone or by scanning one of the numerous QR codes on signs located throughout the city trail.
