Our moment in the spotlight came when RTÉ's Nationwide, a programme renowned for its celebration of all things Irish, featured our digital story trails in two different episodes about County Kerry and Waterford City’s tourism offering. The programme provided a platform for us to unveil the magic that happens when history, heritage, culture, and technology intertwine at tourism destinations.
Augmented Reality, or AR, is a technology that superimposes digital elements onto the real world, enhancing our perception of the environment. It allows us to seamlessly blend virtual content – such as historical narratives, visual effects, and interactive features – with our physical surroundings. With AR, the mundane becomes extraordinary, and the ordinary transforms into an adventure! Some examples of our immersive adventures:
The Kerry Way Digital Companion Experience
At 5 different sites along the Kerry Way, we created immersive storytelling scenes that comprise the Kerry Way Digital Companion experience that was made in partnership with Kerry County Council. This experience allows visitors to truly immerse themselves in the magnificent heritage stories the Kerry Way has to offer. The Kerry Way Digital Companion also breathes new life into existing audio and visual content by taking archives of audio files and photos from local storytellers which encapsulate tales about all manners of Kerry Way creatures, real and mythical, and present them alongside the newest form of immersive media. Visitors can see Queen Victoria brought to life as she visits the Herbert family at Muckross House in 1861 and meet Eoghan Rua—a famous Irish poet—at Muckross Abbey who comes to life to share his infamous poetry.

The Waterford Digital Story Trail
The Waterford Digital Story Trail provides visitors with both audio and immersive AR scenes to bring to life the tales of the city's most renowned residents at 15 different locations around Waterford City. Visitors can meet Reginald—a Viking King and warlord from the 10th century—who describes his quest to conquer Ireland, watch Thomas Francis Meagher—the Leader of the Young Irelanders in the 1848 Rebellion—raise the first Irish tricolour flag, and discover the history of Waterford Crystal with ancient glass blowers brought to life.
